China just changed the rules for power banks. Is yours cleared?

Since March 2026, China requires every power bank to carry both a CCC certification and a scannable QR code — or risk it being pulled at security. Here's exactly what changed, why, and how to make sure yours clears customs.

Will your power bank clear Chinese customs?

Three quick questions. No marketing, no persuasion, just an honest read on whether your current unit is at risk.

Is there a CCC "3C" logo printed on your power bank?
Is there a QR code on the device itself — not the box?
When did you buy it?
01 — The Rule

China has been tightening its checks on power banks

Travellers may now be expected to look for two key signs of compliance: China’s 3C product-safety certification, and a scannable QR code linked to its certification record.

A printed logo alone may no longer be enough. The QR code can help officials verify the product’s certification instead of relying only on what is printed on its shell.

Why the crackdown?

The market was flooded with mass-produced power banks using fake safety marks.

Many had never undergone proper testing, making them unsafe and illegal to bring onto flights.

Printed logos and stickers are easy to fake. But a QR code linked to an official certificate lets airport staff verify that the power bank is genuinely certified and safe.

Status: Held At Inspection
No QR Code

No traceable record. No certificate to pull up on the spot. Held for inspection — most units aren't returned.

Status: Cleared
CCC + QR Verified

Scanned, matched to a real certificate, cleared in seconds. No delay, no confiscation risk.

Grace period for non-QR units — before they're 100% confiscated — ends in:
02 — What It Means For You

No valid code, no promise you'll see it again

If your power bank is checked at security and can't show a working CCC + QR pairing, it can be confiscated on the spot, and most travellers who've had one confiscated never get it back.

Currently where things stand: Enforcement is still rolling out, with a grace period expected to hold until March 2027.

03 — How TechyBits Handles It

No brand can promise zero risk. So TechyBits insures it instead.

Every TechyBits unit shipped after March 1 carries its CCC certification and linked QR code engraved directly onto the back of the powerbank. Flip it over, scan it, done.

Ordered before that date? You're not stuck: we offer a 75% trade-in credit toward a current QR-code unit.

Furthermore, TechyBits backs every unit with a full refund if it's confiscated in China due to a certification issue — a guarantee that no other power bank brand offers.

I used to lose a power bank almost every trip through China security. Now i just flip it over, they check and let me go.

Convenient!

Good to be able to snap on and no need for cables! I travel a lot, and it's troublesome to hold a cable and power bank while sightseeing. Thanks!

Questions travellers actually ask

I bought mine before March 1 — am I stuck?

No. You're eligible for a 75% trade-in credit toward a current unit with the QR code. Email support@techybits.co and we'll sort it out.

Will my power bank definitely be confiscated without the QR code?

Not automatically. Enforcement is still ramping up, and units without it are for now generally still getting through, with that grace period expected to hold until March 2027. But "generally" isn't "always" — and it's a shrinking window. The QR code is the only way to remove the risk entirely.

Worth noting: this rule is specific to China, so it matters most for travel flying into China directly or connecting through. If China isn't on your itinerary, it's not something you need to worry about.

Where exactly is the QR code on a TechyBits unit?

Printed on the back of the device, right alongside the CCC mark, so it's visible without opening a case or digging through a bag.

What happens if mine gets confiscated anyway?

Email support@techybits.co with what happened. If it's a certification-related confiscation, we'll process a full refund under our China Travel Guarantee.

Don't gamble your power bank at customs.

Every TechyBits unit ships CCC-certified with a scannable QR code — and a full refund if China takes it anyway.
